Volunteer Roles

Using our skills, talents and stories to bless one another is integral to the Christian life. The Bible teaches that God has gifted all of us in different ways, and when all of us use our gifts, the church thrives. We view it as an opportunity to serve our community joyfully and those who serve get far more out of it than they put into it. It is very rare that people serve at Harbor alone. You’re almost always part of a team, so serving is an easy way to connect.

Serving is always voluntary. We don’t want anyone serving out of a sense of obligation or duty. We want people to serve because they're eager to bless others because they love the Harbor community.

There are a wide variety of service opportunities. Some require extensive training and are best filled by someone who has been following Jesus for a long time. But other important roles are open to all people regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey. Below is a list of regular serving opportunities.

Sunday Hospitality

Harbor Kid's

These roles request serving 2x monthly, usually every other week.
Welcome Team
This team ensures that new people feel welcome and comfortable as they come into Harbor. Team members should arrive 15 minutes prior to the service. Assist new people in finding coffee, appropriate kid classrooms, and explain nametags. Follow up with guests and let them know you’re glad they’re back.
Program Greeters
This team ensures each person who enters the sanctuary is offered a program. Team members should arrive 15 minutes prior to the service and once the service starts, they close the doors.
Parking Lot Greeters (New Position!)
Our building can be confusing to people who are joining us for the first time. This team stands at the gate near the sheds at the parking lot to welcome people and show them where to go for service and dropping off children in their kids' ministry classrooms.
Ushers
This team greets people as they enter and are aware of what seats are empty/taken. Assist people who are entering to find seats.
Coffee Set-Up (Team Full)
This team prepares us for the morning by brewing coffee, setting up and supplying the hospitality table, and checking our coffee supplies throughout the morning. It also includes updating staff on stock and any other needs.
Communion Prep
Occasionally, we need assistance prepping the communion elements for our services. Volunteers for this would be on an on call basis, contacted the week beforehand.
Prayer Team
The prayer team will be stationed to the right of the stage in the sanctuary after services to be available to pray for individuals. This is where the description goes.
Tent Set-Up / Tear-Down
Our Sunday gatherings are growing, and our outdoor tent has become an important extension of our worship space. Serve with the Tent Set Up Team to set up chairs and a TV and help create a comfortable, inviting environment for those worshiping outside when the sanctuary is full.
Nursery (8 weeks to 2 years)
Volunteers serving in the nursery will love, care for and nurture babies aged 8 weeks to 2 years.
Toddler Town (2 & 3 year olds)
Volunteers serving with toddlers will love and play with 2 and 3-year-olds. This involves circle time with Bible stories, songs, free play, and cuddles.
Pre-K and Kindergarten
Lead teachers serving with pre-K and Kindergarten will facilitate teaching Bible stories and lesson activities. Assistant teachers will help the lead teacher with classroom management and all activities. Both lead and assistant teachers will facilitate sensory and active play designed to help 4, 5 and kindergarteners learn that they are created by and loved by God.
1st - 3rd Grade
Both leaders and assistants serving with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will help kids learn to navigate the Bible, and facilitate craft and play games that illustrate the Bible story. Lead teachers will share the gospel, while assistant teachers help with tasks and classroom management.
4th & 5th Grade
Both leaders and assistants serving with 4th and 5th graders will assist kids in diving deeper into God's Word. Lead teachers will share the gospel, while assistant teachers help with tasks and classroom management.
On Call (1x month)
On-call Harbor Kids volunteers would be prepared to step into any age group if needed, one Sunday per month.
Harbor Kids Support
Classroom cleaning (1x month) or Craft Prep Crew (1x month) - These two support teams occur during the week to keep our rooms and ministry maintained, prepped, and ready for kids on the weekends.

Audio/Visual (Tech booth, etc)

Wayk - Student Ministry

Training provided, no need to be a tech expert.
Weekly
Slides (ProPresenter)
Our video techs manage the slides for both the praise time, announcements and sermon notes. Team members arrive alongside the worship team before the service to run through the set and are attentive during service to the slide changes. This role desires serving at one service (potentially both morning services), 1-2x month.
Audio Tech
Audio techs should have an introductory or in-depth understanding of a soundboard, and be willing to receive further training and direction from our morning Audio tech. Techs set the in-ear levels for the band and the amplification for the room before service, and help with active mixing during the service. Assistance with stage set up and tear down is also warmly welcomed!
Video Recording/Streaming
Our tech working with the video stream makes sure all cameras are online and auto-focused, initiates and checks the live stream and makes camera transitions between our 4 cameras or slides. This involves redirecting cameras and zooming at times, but is a pretty simple task once trained! Team members should arrive 15 minutes before the service. This role desires serving at one service, 1-2x month.
